Justin’s mushroom research program with WSU Extension is focused on forest-cultivated mushroom production systems for the Pacific Northwest (PNW). His program targets regional adaptations to traditional Japanese forest-cultivated mushroom production systems using locally-sourced logs as a substrate. Justin’s Extension work focuses on this system as a readily-accessible, low-impact production system for diversified farms to produce mushrooms and for startup mushroom growers that otherwise lack ready access to indoor production facilities.
