Stephen Marek is an associate professor in the department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. He conducts research on fungal plant pathogens and general fungal biology. He has studied using mushroom-forming fungi for saccharification of cellulosic biofuel feedstocks and novel substrates for mushroom cultivation. He has expertise in the functional genomics, population biology, and cell biology of fungi. He teaches courses on general plant pathology and mycology. In his undergraduate mycology course, he incorporates mushroom cultivation as the primary lab activity.
